Introduction and objectives
The aim of our service is to provide access to a board-certified specialist in small animal surgery or anaesthesia and analgesia at your clinic, providing all surgical equipment, consumables, implants and expertise, and we perform consultations and surgeries at your clinic.
How does "ESPEVET" work?
The referral process works similarly to conventional human referral. After examination of the case and relevant investigation, a case is identified that may benefit from specialist surgery or anaesthesia. After evaluation and contact with us, a consultation and/or surgical treatment can be recommended if necessary. Where it differs is that surgery and anaesthesia are performed at your clinic. You retain control of the case, unless it subsequently needs to be re-evaluated by the specialist. In complex cases, surgeries will be performed at specialist facilities, always under our responsibility.

In cases performed at your clinic, you will retain overall control of the case and can add the corresponding costs for anaesthesia (if performed by clinic staff), the operating theatre fee, hospitalisation, clinical tests, radiographs, medication, post-operative care and follow-up. In this way, part of the profit from the case is retained within your clinic.
Clients are often closely linked to their local vet and with SEV that relationship is maintained.
Why choose a board-certified specialist?
To obtain the diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgery (DipECVS) and Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA), candidates must undergo a rigorous 3-year residency programme at an approved centre, having previously completed one or more general and specialty internships. During the residency programme, all aspects of case management are supervised and discussed by board-certified specialists in that specialty. Surgery and anaesthesia credentials must be completed and a minimum number of cases must be reached for different categories of the specialty. The examination itself involves written, practical and case-based exams. The examination is challenging with a low pass rate and success requires a long period of study and detailed knowledge of the literature.

What do you need to provide?
An operating theatre. Once the consultation has taken place, a date and time for surgery will be agreed.
One assistant or RVN if necessary (not always) to help with surgery and/or anaesthetise the patient, monitor anaesthesia and assist the patient during recovery.

- How do I generate a quote for surgical procedures?
- We have a price list covering the most common surgeries and procedures. For more unusual cases, please contact us and we will provide a quote. Our fees cover all surgical consumables, equipment and implants and the surgical procedure. You will need to add the costs complementary to surgery (clinical tests, hospitalisation, radiographs, anaesthesia, bandaging and medication).
- Payment for surgery should be made within 14 days of surgery, by bank transfer or directly through our website.

Contamos con un equipo completo de instrumentos quirúrgicos y esperamos proporcionar todos los fungibles e implantes quirúrgicos necesarios para realizar cada cirugía al más alto nivel. Todo lo que necesitamos es un quirófano adecuado y traemos a nuestro anestesista especialista cuando sea necesario (actualmente la mayor parte del tiempo).
La lista de procedimientos quirúrgicos anterior no es única, contacta con nosotros si no estáis seguro de si un caso es adecuado para referencia quirúrgica o no. Para los casos que necesiten operarse en otras instalaciones, lo podemos arreglar directamente con vosotros sin olvidar que mantendréis al cliente durante el período pre y postoperatorio. Algunos otros casos pueden manejarse de manera conservadora y el objetivo sería identificar estos casos al inicio del proceso.
